This was our first project with the largest cannabis company in Canada - Canopy Growth - and their retail arm, Tokyo Smoke.
The scope of this project included interior upgrades to the base building. Work was required on the mechanical and electrical systems; new wall and flooring finishes were needed, and Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) approved vault installation; plus, the coordination of security and point of sales installation.
The client wanted to open new retail locations of their new store brand titled 'Tokyo Smoke.'
Chandos took on this project and worked with Canopy Growth and AGLC to turn over a fully functioning tenant space into a rollout that would be ready for operation.
Two unique challenges that we had to deal with during this project, included:
1) Detailed construction was required to achieve full AGLC approval on the secured vault. This vault had many intricate details to ensure security such as heavy duty steel mesh built into the walls as well as steel burglar bars installed in the HVAC ducting that passes through the secured vault.
2) The base building contractor abandoned this project prior to completion. This prompted us to utilize our construction management experience and help take on additional scopes of work while working with the client to minimize additional costs and attain the project schedule.
