The Nordik Spa-Nature in Whitby will be built using IPD construction methods. Set to open in the Fall of 2020, the spa will be divided into two sections and feature seven outdoor pools; eight saunas; 25 massage rooms; three restaurants; several rest areas; fire pits and a beach lounging area. An expansion of its world-class Källa saltwater flotation pool is also planned and will be the largest saltwater pool in North America.
The construction will use mass timber materials and the venue will be arranged into a “mountain village." BIM technology will also be used for planning and drawing integration.
The project is also be taking several steps towards reducing its ecological footprint, including: the implementation of a heat recovery system; downlighting to prevent light pollution; the use of Low Impact Development strategies (such as keeping all soil on site for future use in landscaping) and the collection of rainwater for gardening and other water features.
