We are excited to announce our partnership with the Okanagan Indian Band to build a new 26,200 sq. ft. elementary school to serve the surrounding 2000+ person community. The project is part of a long-term federal government strategy to improve education infrastructure in First Nations communities, nationwide.
Elders and consultants designed this project as a single-storey facility that will prioritize an inclusive learning environment for students to embrace the Sqilxw language and culture, as well as other forms of academic success. The building will be located at the head of Okanagan Lake and offer a variety of services and facilities to band members including education, health care, social services, and early childhood education.
Once complete, the new wood frame building will include:
- 12 classrooms
- Library
- Kitchen and cafeteria
- Gymnasium
- Administration offices
- Cultural ancillary spaces
- Outdoor amenities including a sports field and play area
The school will help support the Okanagan Indian Band in expanding cultural curriculum and create a specialized learning environment for students from kindergarten to grade seven.
