This project is a conversion of a 1950s, 123-suite hotel into a transitional housing project for the Calgary Drop-In-Centre, a not-for-profit organization. The project will consist of 79 transitional apartments along with community rooms and a commercial CRU component for future tenants and businesses. The entire building will receive a new envelope including windows, roof, and insulated metal cladding. The interior will be gutted and new mechanical electrical and elevator systems will be installed. The site work involves new services, community gardens and landscaping, and reconfiguration of the parking lot. The project has been five years in the making and will be one of the largest projects the DI (Kaely, what is DI?) has ever undertaken. Chandos has been involved in some of the fundraising and through the Calgary Marathon our staff raised more than $10,000 for the project.
