In Lumby, British Columbia, we are building a three storey, 20-unit building for seniors who live independently. The single-bedroom units will be adaptable, with three barrier-access-free apartments, accessible common spaces, vehicle parking, and an enclosed scooter parking room on the main floor. Once completed, this new living space will help seniors feel safe, secure, and connected to their community.
The Lumby and District Senior Citizens Housing Society is running the building as part of a larger project that aims to deliver 77,000 homes throughout the North Okanagan region. The 5,500 sq. ft. facility will be located close to local amenities like health-care facilities, community halls, and municipal buildings.
We are building the new facility to be climate resistant. Extreme temperatures can have significant effects on seniors, so the building will include mechanical cooling and heating systems, through-wall heat pumps, and split-system heat pumps in each residential unit.
